I have recently opened my own online shop with my own domain www.HammeredHearts.com
If you go there you will see it is all about handmade jewellery.
Much of it is more or less "Steampunk" style and a bit industrial, perhaps even a bit gothic? Anyway it's cool stuff that I enjoy making from brass, copper, old clock parts etc.
As anyone who has opened their own webstore knows, it can be a lot harder than you anticipated to actually get people to go there and buy stuff. In an effort to promote my shop I have put links on my facebook page and got friends to put links on theirs.I have uploaded my products to Google shopping and doing the Google Analytics thing.I'm also adding items to sites like ThisNext and Kaboodle which always seem to rank fairly highly in searches.I have put my www.HammeredHearts.com link into my signature in my email, so that everyone I email automatically gets a link they can click if they're interested. I'm also going around jewelery blog sites like "Making Jewelry Now" where you can post little items of content with links back to my web site and people can also comment on the items etc which is very cool.I have put some pictures up on the Steampunk writers and artists Guild to try to capture some of the steampunk crowd.I've just printed up some Business cards as well. Not so much traditional business cards but a composite of images of my work and the website printed as an 6x4 photo.I tried to make it simple and appealing so people will want to keep it on their noticeboard or fridge etc.
They only cost 9-15c each and no minimum number, no waiting etc.Just printed 10 yesterday for 90c.I'm going to send some to my sister as she is asking for business cards.I gave her husband, Joe, a very cool steampunk USB drive I made. He uses it in his IT work and gets a lot of interest in it.
Another sister bought one of my pendants and I gave her a second one on condition she passes on my details to anyone who admires it.I've now had 57 visits in my first two weeks open so I think that's pretty good.Apparently it can take weeks for the search engines to notice a new website fully. Now I plan to keep making and adding more product to my site and more variety of product so I get more searches sent there etc.ie instead of just pendants, have some rings, some bracelets, some keyrings, some USB's and so on.I would be interested to hear from anyone else going through a similar process and how it's going. This blog that has been totally neglected until now still shows up regularly in searches so it is yet another way to try to direct traffic to www.HammeredHearts.com So go have a look and BUY something!!!
