ID for Frankie.

Here's an ID tag I made recently for a four legged friend of a friend. It is one of those things that was almost wonderful, then suddenly not. The bone is entirely hand beaten from flat sheet and it was all going well until I stretched it a bit thin and made a small hole in one end of the bone. No worries, just closed it up as well as I could and soldered it from behind, which fixed the hole and strengthened the surrounding metal. All good. Made the back piece, soldered the bone on, antiqued and buffed, then as I was admiring my handiwork and thinking how clever I was I realised that I had left one digit out of the phone number! Dammn it! An ID with the wrong phone number is useless. I decided the best way to fix it was to re-stamp the number on another piece of copper and solder it on top of the incorrect number.

That was a good plan but the heat mucked up the solder attaching the bone slightly but also made the solder drop out of the hole in the end of the bone. I stopped at that point, I'd spent too much time already. The tag was for a friend and she seemed pretty happy with it, especially when I told her I wasn't going to charge for it as I consider it a stuff up. It still looks nice though and totally unique. Next post shows my improved version of a similar tag.
